To sign a PDF without uploading it, use a signing tool that runs in your browser: you open the PDF, draw or type your signature onto it, and download the signed file — all on your own device, with nothing sent to a server. You can also request a signature from someone else without a server: mark where they should sign, email them the file yourself, and they sign it in their own browser and send it back. A typical e-signature service uploads your document, stores it, emails a link to each signer, hosts the signing session on its servers, and keeps the completed file. That is convenient, but it means your contract lives on someone else’s infrastructure and usually behind a paid account. For a great many everyday agreements, none of that is required: the signing itself — placing a signature on a page — can happen entirely in a browser, on each person’s own device.
Because the work happens on your device, the file is never transmitted, there is no account step, and there is no watermark on the result.
The clever part is that two-party signing can also be server-free. Instead of a hosted link, the signature fields travel inside the PDF itself:

In many places, an electronic signature — a mark you apply intending to sign, together with a record of what was signed and when — is valid for common agreements (in the US under the ESIGN Act and UETA; in the EU as a “simple” electronic signature under eIDAS). An in-browser tool can record the signer’s name, the time, and a tamper-evident fingerprint of the exact document, which is a solid record for everyday use.
The honest limit: a server-free tool records the signer’s identity as stated by the signer — it does not independently verify it with email or ID checks the way a paid, server-backed service can. For high-stakes contracts that require that higher assurance, check what your situation needs.
