How to edit PDF metadata
- Choose a PDF to load its current document properties.
- Edit the title, author, subject, or comma-separated keywords; leave a field blank to clear it.
- Download the updated PDF and inspect its properties in your PDF reader.
Limits & good to know
- This edits the standard PDF document information fields only. It does not remove XMP metadata, attachments, or information embedded in the page content.
- Saving rewrites the PDF and can invalidate existing digital signatures. Keep the original if you need its signature validation.
- Encrypted or damaged PDFs must be unlocked or repaired before their properties can be changed.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- Your files are processed on your device, not uploaded to our servers. Your file and edits are saved in this browser for recovery, and previous documents remain in Saved drafts when you open another file. Use Saved drafts to resume or delete individual copies, or clear this site’s browser data to remove all copies. Browser storage can be cleared or become unavailable; download important work.
- Does this remove all metadata from a PDF?
- No. It edits the standard title, author, subject, and keyword fields. XMP metadata, attachments, and information printed in the pages are outside this tool’s scope.
- Will this keep my digital signature valid?
- No. Saving changes the PDF, which may invalidate an existing digital signature. Keep the original signed copy.
- Is this really free, or free "until you hit a limit"?
- Really free. Unlike most "free" PDF sites there is no task-per-day cap, no locked Pro features, no watermark stamped on your file, and no payment step before download. Every tool is the full tool.
