Remove PDF Metadata, free in your browser
Clear the standard PDF title, author, subject, and keyword fields from a downloaded copy. This is not a complete metadata scrub.
How to remove standard PDF metadata
- Choose a PDF to prepare a metadata-cleared copy.
- Review which standard fields will be removed and the items this tool does not scrub.
- Download the copy and inspect its properties in your PDF reader.
Limits & good to know
- Only standard PDF document information fields are cleared: title, author, subject, and keywords.
- XMP metadata, embedded files, annotations, and information visible in the page content are not removed.
- Saving may invalidate a digital signature. The source file is left unchanged.
- A password-protected PDF must be unlocked before it can be processed.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my files uploaded to a server?
- Your files are processed on your device, not uploaded to our servers. Your file and edits are saved in this browser for recovery, and previous documents remain in Saved drafts when you open another file. Use Saved drafts to resume or delete individual copies, or clear this site’s browser data to remove all copies. Browser storage can be cleared or become unavailable; download important work.
- Does this remove all metadata from a PDF?
- No. It clears the standard title, author, subject, and keywords only. XMP metadata, attachments, annotations, and page content remain. Do not rely on this tool when you need complete forensic sanitization.
- Will this keep my digital signature valid?
- No. Any save may invalidate an existing digital signature. Keep the signed original.
- Is this really free, or free "until you hit a limit"?
- Really free. Unlike most "free" PDF sites there is no task-per-day cap, no locked Pro features, no watermark stamped on your file, and no payment step before download. Every tool is the full tool.
